Cross-cultural Commonalities and Interconnectedness

Many cross-cultural themes may be the foundation for curriculum development using the pluralistic approach.

Basic needs such as food, shelter, a sense of belonging, dreams or hopes may be explored cross culturally. Feelings such as love, fear, confusion or joy can be observed both in a variety of artworks and in oneself during the creative problem solving process. This joyous clay sculpture by artist John Devraj, from India, shows two girls in the friendly act of swinging each other. Play is a universal pleasure demonstrated by both this exuberant artist and his subjects.
