Living Curriculum: Local Control

The NAB Living Curriculum is used in the local school district totally at the discretion of local art teachers and administrators. Each NAB Teacher/Researcher can choose those strategies, which they deem most educationally appropriate for their school and their student needs.

There is no dictated structure for the Living Curriculum. All approved strategies, that follow the basic NAB principles, are focused on the NAB visual thinking skills and global perspectives concepts, and are well written, are entered into the database and can be accessed by any other NAB teacher/researcher. The individual teacher/researcher has only to log on to the Living Curriculum database, from their password protected account ,and make selections that, they believe, will make a difference in their art program, for their students.

Iowa State University art education faculty and graduate research assistants are to provide coordination and organization for the project. Working cooperatively with teacher/researchers through the NAB Clearinghouse (nabch@iastate.edu) these faculty and research assistants, evaluate and organize materials submitted for the Living Curriculum and NAB Lending Library. They also seek outside grants from foundations and sustaining funds from Iowa State University to maintain and improve the Living Curriculum computer database, NAB Web Site, and NAB Lending Library, for the individual use of all teacher/researchers and their schools.
