Cross-cultural Commonalities and Interconnectedness

One theory reflecting cross-cultural commonalities is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. This pyramid explains the idea that fundamental physical and relationship needs build the base for such achievements as self knowledge, aesthetic fulfillment and self actualization.

Maslow's categories are illustrated in the following diagram:

This theory provides incentive for encouraging students in art education to acquire self knowledge, fulfill the urge to experience and create aesthetics and to develop their own authentic potential as much as possible. It also gives ideas for cross-cultural themes.
